Senior Living in Nanaimo
What types of things impact the life of a senior and how you do ensure you’re living your best life? In the next few articles we will look at Senior living in Nanaimo and ways to make the best out of living in this great city.
Downsizing
For many people as they get older, downsizing to either a smaller home or condo, or making the jump to living in a retirement community, whether it’s independent living or assisted living or a combination of both, is a big, sometimes scary, decision. We’ll look at the pros and cons of moving to a smaller home or condo versus a retirement home in more detail in another article, so check back for that.
The hard part of any downsizing decision, is realizing you may have to part with some of your belongings. If you don’t want to sell them, consider giving them to family or donating to charitable organizations such as shelters for abused families, or the local Salvation Army, or other groups where your possessions will go on to be loved by a family less fortunate than you. You might not have a use for them any longer, but the family who receives them sure will.
Retirement community
If you do make the decision to live in a retirement community or downsize to a condo or smaller home, make sure your physical environment suits your lifestyle. It may be important to be near shopping, recreation, public transportation, medical care, church or other activities that keep you young.
For some, it’s important to be somewhere you can easily walk to all of these things. Exercise, after all, is important at any age and staying active is one key to living a long, healthy life. If you are part of social groups, such as crafting or your bridge club, being near these will ensure you maintain your social connections and will keep you engaged.
